Celebrating Original Design with Vola

Preview

Since its first collection in 1968, VOLA has exemplified design excellence. The first collaboration between VOLA founder Verner Overgaard and Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen combined form, function and craft, and that spirit of ingenuity and quality continues today

The first mixers designed by Danish tap manufacturer VOLA — 111 and HV1 — were designed for the National Bank of Denmark. It was a groundbreaking design project for which the brand’s founder Verner Overgaard imagined a tap that hides the mechanical parts of the mixer, leaving only the handles and spout exposed. This tap, known as the  VOLA 111, changed bathroom design forever. The modular built-in tap was the world’s first fully integrated single-lever mixer, and its innovation, as well as the geometric design of circles bisected by a simple line, attracted instant international acclaim.

The VOLA 111 is a testament to a modular design system of infinite possibilities that can be customised to suit any installation configuration. VOLA’s original products remain celebrated classics today. Unchanged for more than 50 years, they are a testament to the endurance of their modern design and high-quality finishes.

At the same time these designs were introduced, so to were coloured taps, with VOLA being the first to introduce a full spectrum of colour to tapware and bathroom design. The first prototypes were developed by Arne Jacobsen in just two colours, grey and orange. The colour range quickly expanded to ten colours, and today it sits at 28 colours and finishes, all of which are still firmly based on geometric forms and the principals of the brand’s founders.

Every product is made to order and no stock is held, a point of pride in today’s mass-produced world. Better still, since VOLA has never changed its colour palette, products have greater longevity and all parts, even from the oldest models, can be repaired or replaced.

VOLA products continue to be celebrated as design icons. They’re often imitated, but never matched, for VOLA is an original in modern tapware. Its revolutionary tapware changed bathroom design in the 1960s, and its products remain coveted around the world today.
