This November sees Hong Kong host the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection 1998-2024 exhibition, a celebration of 25 years of SaloneSatellite's focus on emerging designers

Milan’s Salone del Mobile has been a fixture on the international design circuit since its debut in 1961, and 1998 saw the fair grow further with the launch of SaloneSatellite, which supports emerging designers, especially those under 35, and connects them with producers.

SaloneSatellite has become a drawcard in its own right and boasts a permanent collection at the Artwood Academy – Polo Formativo del Legno Arredo Fondazione ITS Rosario Messina in Brianza. Over its history, around 360 projects have been featured in the catalogues of major Italian and international brands, with some becoming recognised icons of contemporary design.

To date, the collection has never been exhibited outside of Italy, but in celebration of SaloneSatellite’s 25-year anniversary, Salone del Mobile has partnered with IDFFHK and Designworks Foundation to bring the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection 1998-2024 exhibition to Hong Kong. The exhibition, curated and designed by Salone del Mobile, will be showcased this November at the Arts Pavilion, West Kowloon Cultural District.

The exhibition will feature more than 100 award-winning design products, mapping the themes and creative responses that have characterised and shaped design from the turn of the 21st century to the present day. ‘The exhibition profiles the new generations to whom the baton of the 20th-century “masters” has been passed down,’ said Marva Griffin Wilshire, founder and curator of SaloneSatellite. ‘Their creations mark out the trajectory of the evolution of contemporary design, as well as their aesthetic and projectile contribution to the history of design.’

The SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection 1998-2024 exhibition runs from 11–21 November 2024 at the Arts Pavilion, West Kowloon Cultural District.
